Sunday ~

Robert and Maggie left Sunday morning. It was so fun having them here. Maggie got Jake this cute Polo outfit. So we had to get a picture of Uncle Robert and Jake in their matching tops.
Maggie cooked for us and made some yummy stuff while she was here.
~ Daddy and Jake in their Polos ~
I spent the weekend pumping every 2 hours so I look a little tired. But it all paid off. I took Jake to the pediatrician today to weigh him and he is up to 9.3!!! Yay Jake!!!
His cord finally fell off Saturday so Sunday night we gave him his first real bath.

Phoenix Meets Owen ~

We are taking care of our friends puppy Owen, and Phoenix is on guard. She was so cute when he first came in the house. She got all big and puffy. So we have him in Jakes room in his cage and Phoenix is watching him. It's really cute. Jake has had a good day today. He is resting a lot. Plus- he slept 8 hours last night. He is likes having a full belly.

Good News ~

We went to the lactation consultant yesterday and they weighed him and he is up to 8.7!! Yay- he gained 2 ounces in one day. We have decided to just pump and feed him. This way I can monitor how much he is getting and still give him breast milk. We have already noticed a difference in him. His cry is a little stronger and he is sleeping more from his full meals. I am anxious to start seeing fat rolls on him. ~ Aunt Maggie ~

2 weeks

Our little guy is too little!
He went to the doctor today for his 2 week appointment and he is down 3 ounces. He weighed in at 8.5! :(
He is getting his 6-8 wet diapers and 4-5 poopie diapers a day- but he is not getting enough to be putting on weight. He is in the 90th percentile for his height, but only the 50th for his weight. The doctor put his finger in his mouth to test his suction and he says he is not sucking the right way. So, we both have an appointment tomorrow with a lactation consultant to get Jake to suck the right way. He also says that's why he is sleeping so well at night even though he is eating through out the day. We were told we don't have to wake him up to feed, that he needs to learn to eat the right way and it will fix itself. If it doesn't work I will just pump or give him formula if it's my milk for some reason. I hope it all works out because I like nursing him. In the mean time I am supplementing after every other feeding. I was trying to get some cute baby pictures but he wasn't in the mood.
I love when he sleeps with his arms up like this.
My brother Robert and his girlfriend- and my close friend- Maggie got in town today. Jake is so lucky to have so many aunts and uncles come see him.

Auntie Val ~

Trav's sister Val got here on Thursday to help out and see Jake.

~ Sweet sleeper ~

Our friends Matt and Maia had their baby Friday morning- little boy who's name is yet to be decided. I thought for sure she was having a girl, but like everyone else we know having babies right now she had a boy!!! Yay- Jake has a buddy here his age. He was 8 pounds 7 ounces- way to go Maia!!! It was so fun going through pregnancy together.

Today was a record high for Phoenix. We were told it is the hottest day here in 11 years- 120!!! So when we left to get lunch Jake stayed looking cool with his matching shades. Super cute!

Date Night ~

Well, as hard as I thought it would be to be gone for the first time without Jake it wasn't that bad. Leslie babysat last night so Travis and I could get dinner. Of course I thought of him the whole time.

Grandma got this for him.
Today he sat in his swing and liked it.
Aunt Leslie left to go back home today and of course I cried. Trav's sister Val is here now for a few days. We are so thankful for the help.

Hook 'Em Horns ~

I love this out fit!!! A co-worker at the bank in the Austin office sent it to us and Jake looks so great in it. He looks like he is smiling in this one- so proud to be wearing burnt orange.

Phoenix is checking out what all the fuss is about. She is feeling a little left out attention wise. Travis had to play with her last night, gave her good daddy time.
"What do you mean we don't live in Texas????"

Our little guy ~

Jacob is such a great sleeper. Every night he has been home he is sleeping so well at night. I am only up with him 2 times. Last night I put him to bed at 11:45 and he slept until 4:30. I couldn't believe it. I am sleeping really light trying to listen for him, and I check him all the time out of shock that he is still asleep. The mornings are the times that are harder. From 5:00 - 12:00 he is eating and not staying asleep all the time. But, I would rather him do that during the day than in the middle of the night. My sister in law Leslie is here with us until Thursday helping out, and man are we thankful. Jake sleeps great at night in his bed, but during the day he really doesn't sleep well unless someone holds him.

Little Boy Jake ~

Grandma and Grandpa headed back to San Antonio yesterday. It was sad to see them go. ~ Uncle Jeff, PaPaw, Allie, Travis, Jake, Grandma, Emma, and Aunt Leslie ~
At the doctor's office he had his hand up like this and we thought he looked like a boxer. He always has his hands up by his face- I think he was like that in the womb.
Of course we haven't forgotten about our other baby. She doesn't like all the company and she is very suspicious of Jake, but she is doing really well with him. She likes to just watch him- it's so cute. She has been a little stand-offish with me, but it's probably because I am always with Jake.
Look at these cute skinny legs!

Jake has been sleeping great at night. We are only up with him 2 times. But in the mornings he is hungry and takes more work. The pediatrician says he is in his feeding frenzy time, and in the mornings he is eating all pretty much every hour, sleeping for 10-15 minutes in between each feeding. But it's all good he says. It of course wears us out as you can see!

Jacob Dale Wood is Here~

Sunday July 9th- one day shy of week 41 and I went into labor!!! I got my first contractions at about 5:00 pm, we hung around to see if this was it then went to the hospital. We arrived at 10 pm and we were still only dilated to a 1 and 75% effaced- so they told me to walk around and then they would check me in the hour to see if they would admit me. We walked for an hour- my contractions were 2 minutes apart and lasting 45-60 seconds. After the hour I had dilated to a 3. They decided to admit me. We had to get an IV started then I walked some more. The back labor was intense and I started to get nauseous too while we were walking with contractions 1 minute apart. I decided I wanted an epidural. I didn't end up getting it until 2:00 am and man does it make a difference! I was finally able to relax. We both laid down to rest and with in the hour I was dilated to a 6, progressing nicely. Then 40 minutes later I was an 8, then I felt the need to push. 6:30 am Monday morning my nurse starts letting me push a little while we waited for my doctor to come in. The hospital hadn't called her yet b/c they didn't think I would go that fast. At 6:45 my nurse tells me the doctor might not make it in time, that's how fast he was coming. My doctor did make it, I pushed for maybe 10 more minutes with her and then he was born.
He was born at 7:00 am Monday July 10th, 2006. It was the most wonderful moment for both of us. We all were so surprised by all the hair he had!
He weighed 9 pounds, .06 ounces and was 22 inches long. He scored a 9 on his apgar test- yay Jake! When we got to our room the nurses gave him a bath.

He is so sweet and perfect!

Grandma and Grandpa drove straight in from San Antonio. They had their stuff packed for at least a week, maybe longer, ready to leave as soon as we told them we were in labor. They made it to Scottsdale by 8:00 Monday night.

He has these cute skinny long legs. We call them chicken legs. And look how big his feet are, so cute.
We were supposed to go home Wednesday morning. But for some reason that morning he came down with a 100.5 fever. The Pediatrician didn't want to release him and had the neonatologist come see him for some tests to find out what could be causing his fever. It was pretty scary for us. The doctors were afraid he had an infection of some sort. He had lost 9% of his birth weight and that was a little more than usual for no reason. All but one test came back in the hour normal and his fever dropped to 99.7. So, we stayed another night and by morning he was back to normal and the last blood culture came back negative so we were able to go home.

Look at his hair! We had fun making it all stick up.
Here is his "coming home from the hospital" outfit. I love the little booties.
He was wide awake the whole car ride home- just looking around.

Trav's brother and his family came out to see us Thursday night. Here is Jake with his cousin Emma.

Aunt Leslie, Allie and Uncle Jeff with Jake. He is so loved and adored.
He had a great first night home too. He is such a good baby. Friday he went to the doctor and he had gained 5 ounces in just one day. Which was good since he lost a little too much weight in the hospital. All the doctors are stumped as to why he got a fever and dropped weight. He was always eating and was not dehydrated. I guess God just wanted us there another night.
We are so glad to be home with him and feel so blessed to have him.
