Jacob has been seeing the eye doctor since his 18 month checkup when his vision screen came back less than good. The eye doctor said he was 3 times more farsighted than he should be for his age, but that some kids eye muscles take a little longer to correct. (
We were told a
ll babies are born farsighted and the eyes correct on their own. If they don't correct or have vision problems before age six it's a genetic problem-which is also in my family.) So we waited and did followup check ups on Jacob's eyes to see if they just needed time. Today he had his third check up, a year later, and his eyes are actually worse. He is now 4 times as farsighted. So, Jacob is getting glasses. The doctor was surprised at my reaction because I was okay and excited about how cute he would look. He said most moms break out in tear when he tells them their child needs glasses. I just remember how cute my sister was with hers, and I hate to think of Jacob straining to see. He is having to focus harder right now and he runs the risk of his eyes crossing. To me it's not that bad. I hope he adjusts to them smoothly. They had to dilate his eyes so the rest of the day if we were out in bright light he had to wear his sunglasses they gave him. It was a preview of the battle we will have with him to keep them on.

I hope to get the prescription filled this week, but I don't know how long this takes. I will say that this is so strange to us. Even though Jacob got his vision problems from, most likely, my side of the family (
since Aunt GiGi had a lazy eye at age 6), both Travis and I have 20/20. It's like the food allergies...no one else has them. And his speech delay...he is just a unique boy but still perfectly made by his creator.
On another note: Miss Paige also saw a doctor today because last night she was wheezing. We did a breathing treatment, (
which was her idea of torture- Travis had to help me hold her down for the 15-20 minutes while we did the treatment, she is strong!) and I took her in this morning. She sounded good so we are only going to give treatments as needed. But- she also has a yeast infection. If your like I was a few months ago you are probably thinking how crazy and sad that baby girls can get those. But yes...they can, and she does. Thankfully it's not too bad, she probably got it from her last round of antibiotics she was on, even though we fed her yogurt at every meal. So, this is new territory for us and puts another notch on our parenting belt. Our doctor gave us a powder script (
you can also us an otc cream) and we hope it clears up soon. In the mean time we are checking her diaper every hour and trying to keep her clean and dry- which is hard with baby diaper areas. Tonight we gave her some "bottomless" time and she didn't seem to mind it. Why are babies so funny when it comes to being naked or close to it? My kids get a little extra bounce, spring in their step when they are in their birthday suits...they just love it.
And lastly, I have to brag on my sweet husband. He is the best at showering me with flowers for no reason and this most recent bunch I thought was so neat. They are UT roses!!! Aren't the beautiful. The sweeter part is that when he came home with them he took Jacob a side and had Jacob deliver them. So sweet! I had to brag on him...I am blessed and spoiled. :)

Of course I will post pictures of Jacob in his new glasses as soon as he gets them.
